Based in East Sussex, we are an architecture practice working with commercial clients, landed estates and householders across the South East of England. Much of our work centres on the productive reuse of redundant rural buildings, whether that means converting a former agricultural structure into residential accommodation, repurposing estate buildings for commercial use, or navigating the particular complexities of listed building and heritage consent work. We understand that landowners and estate managers are often working with buildings that carry significant planning history, structural constraints and heritage sensitivities, and we approach each project with the patience and technical grounding that this kind of work demands. Our process begins with a site visit and a thorough feasibility assessment, giving clients a realistic picture of what is achievable before any significant commitment is made. We then review the planning history and any heritage constraints in detail, develop concept designs and options for the client to consider, and where appropriate engage with the local planning authority at pre-application stage to test the approach before a formal submission is made. Once planning or listed building consent is granted, we can remain involved through contract administration and site inspection during construction, providing continuity from the initial conversation through to practical completion. We have worked alongside Historic England and local conservation officers on projects where heritage considerations are central to the outcome, and we are experienced in the kind of constructive dialogue with statutory consultees that gives complex applications the best chance of success.
Our practice is based in East Sussex and we work primarily across the South East of England, including the surrounding counties.
We begin every project with a site visit and feasibility assessment so that clients have a clear and honest view of what is possible. We then review the planning history and any heritage constraints before developing concept designs and carrying out an options appraisal. Where it is likely to be beneficial, we engage with the local planning authority at pre-application stage before preparing and submitting a full planning or listed building consent application. For clients who want continued support beyond consent, we provide contract administration and site inspection services during construction.
We have direct experience working with Historic England and local conservation officers, and we are familiar with the requirements of heritage consent work in sensitive and constrained locations.
Our combination of heritage consent experience and practical knowledge of rural estate buildings means we are well placed to help landowners unlock value from structures that might otherwise be seen as a liability. We engage early with planning authorities and conservation officers, which helps to manage risk and avoid delays further into the process.
